Who else gets super annoyed when shopping for black lighting and sink fixtures because the black versions are way more expensive than the other color options? Me me me! I didn’t even realize what a real problem this was until my guest bathroom remodel and I was shocked that the exact same fixtures could be so drastically different in price due to the color! How unfair!
I decided to avoid the frustration of that situation by painting my fixtures! The big changes were the faucet update and the lighting fixture update. I used Behr Alkyd paint in Totally Black to paint all of these mini projects.
For the faucet, I used Frog Tape to tape off my fixture from the sink that I freshly resurfaced with the Rustolium Tub and Tile Kit. Using a one inch brush I started at the base and painted upward toward the handles. I applied 3 coats total plus touch ups in the hard to reach places. The hardest part about painting the faucet is making sure the paint doesn’t drip and making sure you get into all the details of the metal. All in all it’s actually a super easy fix and a huge visual upgrade!
The light fixture is actually my favorite upgrade! After removing the fixture from the wall I painted it. It took about 3 coats like the faucet just because it had so many detailed areas. I also removed the old frosted glass light shades and that was an instant upgrade! I decided not to replace the shades but instead get some Edison bulbs to really capture a more polished vibe. I chose these bulbs from Amazon. This really changes the look of the bathroom and I love this update!
Hope this post encourages you to look at ways you can use paint to transform existing fixtures in your home!
